CALCULATOR Free · indicative

What could a VFD save on your fan or pump?

Compare today’s throttled or bypass control with variable-speed control. See the kWh, rupees and CO₂ saved and how soon the drive pays for itself.

You’ll get
  • Energy and rupee savings
  • Payback in months
  • CO₂ avoided

How we calculate

Method & assumptions

  • Today (throttle)Power ≈ rated × (0.55 + 0.45 × flow) - a typical throttled-system curve.
  • Today (bypass)Power stays near full load regardless of flow.
  • With VFDPower ≈ rated × flow × (static + (1 − static) × flow²), plus 3% drive losses.
  • SavingsPower difference × hours × tariff; payback on the drive cost entered.
  • ImportantReal savings depend on the load profile, system curve and drive; a site study gives a firm figure.
FAQ

About this calculator

Which loads save the most?

Centrifugal pumps and fans that run at partial flow - savings fall quickly as speed approaches 100%.

Does it help constant-load machines?

Not much for energy; a VFD may still help with soft starting and process control.

Will a VFD reduce motor life?

Use inverter-duty motors or output filters where needed. We specify the combination.

Do you supply drives and panels?

Yes - VFD and soft-starter panels are in our catalogue.
